Friday Fest: Sarasota’s Free Summer Outdoor Concerts at Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall

Free 2018 Friday Fest concerts are coming up on July 27, Aug. 17 and Sept. 14.

Friday Fest, the free outdoor summer concert series presented by the Van Wezel Performing Arts center, kicked off in June with the first of four free concerts. The concerts take place from 5 to 9 pm on the Bayside Lawn of the Van Wezel. Free to the public, the events include food & beverage vendors and beautiful sunsets over Sarasota Bay. Blankets and lawn chairs are welcome at all Friday Fest concerts; in case of rain, the concerts will move indoors to the Van Wezel’s grand foyer or main stage.

If you missed the first summer concert on June 22, there are 3 more still to come:

Coming up on July 27 is Florida’s own 8-piece band Reverend Barry & the Funk, featuring 3 Grammy-nominated musicians. Reverend Barry & the Funk present high-energy original music and covers of popular funk & soul music including Earth, Wind & Fire, Commodores, Kool & the Gang, and Prince.

On August 17, Sarasota’s popular Rebel Heart will feature popular country songs as well as pop, rock, dance and blues hits. The 5-piece Rebel Heart presents a must-see country rock performance.

Wrapping up the summer series on Sept. 14 will be the Dr. Dave Band, featuring high-energy Southern Rock blended with bluegrass banjo and fiddle. The Dr. Dave Band received the 2018 Reader’s Choice Award for Best Musical Group from the Sarasota Herald-Tribune.

November 10 – 13, 2017: Come out and enjoy the 8th Annual Siesta Key Crystal Classic Master Sand Sculpting Competition. Master Sand Sculptors from across the U.S. will compete in paired teams for thousands in prize money. Live music and food and retail vendors in a “vendor village” setting are also a part of the festival. November 10 – 13, 2017: The 10th Annual Sarasota Chalk Festival takes place for its 4th year in Venice, Florida. The theme of the 2017 festival is: “EVANESCENT.” Hundreds of chalk artists will create artwork using the pavement of the Venice Airport Festival Grounds (610 Airport Avenue East, Venice, FL.) In the recent survey published in the “U.S. News and World Report” the Sarasota area ranked # 21, Austin, TX. ranked # 1 as to the best places to live in the U.S. “Warm temperatures year-round, award winning beaches and a thriving arts & cultural scene has made Sarasota a go-to place for retirees and families, not to mention a handful of celebrities” the report sited.
